Who We Are

Welcome to the official home page of the Humphreys Whisky Club (HWC). The HWC was established in the fall of 2011 as a group of Malt Whisky enthusiasts who live and work in the USAG Humphreys area, South Korea. The HWC exists to advance public understanding of the history, production and intrinsic quality of scotch malt whisky and other distinguished spirits while advocating responsible alcohol consumption.
What We Do

The HWC hosts monthly explorations of malt whisky at which you will be treated to:
-A Welcome Dram
-A guided nosing and tasting of the 4-5 featured drams & a Mystery Dram
-Bread, water, and club member potluck buffet
- A chance to buy the remainder of your favorite whisky of the night
-Fun!
The price of a typical evening is $30, with all proceeds going toward the next meeting's supplies. Each meeting concludes with the auctioning -off of the featured bottles (be sure to bring extra cash), which helps us to order ever more intriguing and rare expressions . We kindly ask that attendees bring a small dish to share when possible.
Special events will include: whisky masterclasses, blind tasting competitions with prizes, free samples, presentations on the history of Scotch Whisky and how whisky is made, charity auctions, and possibly guest speakers and/or trips to Korean distilleries/breweries.
Join our facebook group to be informed of future events. Reserve your seat in the monthly facebook event. Only 20 seats are available per meeting. Reservations are first come first served.
On occasion samples are reserved for club members, yet we should all remember whisky is always meant to be shared with friends; the main intent of the meeting is to share the whisky tasting event together as a group.

How We Do It

The Club runs on a completely not for profit basis, using all collected funds for sustaining its activities. All funds collected at tastings will be used for the purchase of the next meeting's bottles or other activities approved by the group's members. Monthly reports financial reports are posted in the clubs' facebook group.
A list of the featured bottles for each meeting will be posted in a flier before each meeting so that members will know what's on the cue. Additionally, a different member will be responsible each month for bringing a locally acquired welcome dram (Glenfiddich 12 or Johnny Walker Black etc.).
The HWC advocates responsible alcohol consumption. All tasting participants are required to indicate their plan for getting home on the sign in roster. Driving home is NOT an option.
No person under the age of 21 will be served.

Why We Do It

Experience: The HWC hosts Whisky Tasting events to further our collective experience of the aromas, flavors, culture and history intrinsic to Scotch Malt Whisky.
Craftsmanship: We believe that generations of traditional craftsmanship, skill and creativity, combined with decades of patient maturation in expertly selected casks, can create liquids that bring the flavors of the land, the people and their way of life into our glasses.
Camaraderie: We at the HWC believe that a wee dram of quality spirit, in a proper nosing glass, is one of the best ways to enjoy late night conversation with good friends.
Intrigue: Finally, if someone asks you why you love Scotch Malt Whisky, the most appropriate answer is always, "If you haven't figured it out, I cannot possibly explain it to you."

"The proper drinking of Scotch whisky is more than indulgence: it is a toast to civilization, a tribute to the continuity of culture, a manifesto of man’s determination to use the resources of nature to refresh mind and body and enjoy to the full the senses with which he has been endowed." -David Daiches, Scotch Whisky 1969
